Client Testimonial
“Some of the biggest problems we were having when first seeking out someone to handle our SEO were building backlinks, figuring out how to get domain authority, really all the actual technical SEO. Writing articles, we knew how to do that, but outside of that we really didn't know much. Working with Ben and him showing me some of the stuff he and his team do, it's like, okay, wow, there really is a science to SEO here.
We've gone from four or five or six domain authority to well into the high 30s. Traffic on Ahrefs, which is what I use, we maybe had eight to ten thousand at most when first engaging, and we're well over 50,000, pushing up on 60,000 monthly. He really is an operator as well and has his own businesses that he is trying to implement this stuff in, which makes me feel good as a business owner, knowing the stuff he's doing, he's doing on his own brands as well. Definitely highly recommend.”

The Brand & The Challenge
A high-ticket solar panel company, on an SEO foundation that couldn't carry its catalog
ShopSolarKits.com is a high-ticket Shopify store specializing in selling solar panels and equipment. Paid advertising was one of its main channels, which doesn't require the keyword optimization that solar SEO does, so little attention had gone into optimizing its pages for specific keywords.
After the initial mini audit, and talking with the client, we identified four issues limiting the store's SEO potential: a poor technical and on-page SEO foundation, insufficient keyword research and keyword mapping, dozens of cases of keyword cannibalization, and low domain authority with a lack of quality links.
By Alex Smith's own account, the Shop Solar Kits team knew how to write articles, but building backlinks, growing domain authority, and the technical side of SEO were outside what they knew. That's where GoldenWeb came in, as an SEO agency for solar companies that handles the work end to end.
The Approach
A six-step solar SEO strategy, from a full audit to link building
To resolve these issues and generate results, we followed our 6-step SEO strategy for solar companies. Steps 1 to 4 were done at the start of onboarding, and steps 5 and 6 are done every month.
- 01
Run a full technical SEO audit for the solar site
Whenever we start a new Shopify SEO project, we begin with our full SEO audit, which covers over 285 on-page, off-page, and technical SEO factors and opportunities. In this technical SEO audit for a solar site, we found tons of unresolved technical SEO issues, along with on-page issues and keyword cannibalization, due to the number of SKUs on the store.
- 02
Implement every fix, done for the client
After identifying all the issues and opportunities, we jumped straight in and started resolving them. Our solar SEO services are done for you, so the client didn't need to involve their development team: our team handled everything, saving the client's time so they could focus on other tasks. It took about 16 days to resolve all of the on-page, off-page, and technical SEO issues, as well as the keyword cannibalization.
- 03
Map the top 25 pages to one keyword each
Even without keyword mapping, the store was getting decent organic traffic, but there was a lot of opportunity to lift it further. We selected the top 25 pages with the highest revenue potential per visitor and mapped each one to a specific keyword to rank for. We then optimized the on-page SEO of all 25 pages for those keywords, a first round of solar panel SEO that instantly boosted rankings.
- 04
Research solar keywords and plan content at scale
We dedicate an entire step to content planning because it's one of the most important parts of the process, especially when we write anywhere between 30,000 and 100,000 words a month for our clients. For ShopSolarKits.com we planned a ton of content, all related to solar panels, by exporting over 200,000 keywords, filtering them, clustering them by intent, and organizing them into SILOs and article groups. Interlinking all the relevant articles in the same SILO improves topical relevancy further.
- 05
Write, upload, and publish solar SEO content every month
After the content plan, we move on to writing, following a 5-page SOP that comes down to four steps. First, identify search intent: open the target keyword in an incognito window, work out why someone is searching it, and position the article around answering that. Second, outline: click through the top 5 to 10 results on page one and cover all of their topics and subtopics in one article, so it's the most in-depth on the topic. Third, link to at least 5 of the keyword-mapped pages, which improves UX and sends referral traffic and link juice to them. Fourth, interlink the article with the others in its SILO, using keyword variations as anchors, so Google understands their context better. - 06
Build links for the solar site once the first batch of content is live
Most SEOs would place link building at the top of their list, but we prefer to focus on it after the first batch of articles goes live, not because content matters more than links, but because we get a higher ROI on links after publishing new content. Our go-to strategy for solar company SEO is PR and outreach: we get the client featured in relevant media publications through guest posts, write the content ourselves, and optimize each post for specific keywords so it ranks and gets traffic too, because a guest post with traffic is significantly more valuable than one without, no matter the DR of the domain. We use natural anchors and prefer linking to blog posts over money pages like collection and product pages.
The Results
Solar SEO results: $981,172.04 in additional organic revenue in six months
After about 3 months, the results from the audit and implementations really started to kick in. With all of the keyword-targeted content and niche-specific link building, we really started dominating more and more of our target keywords.
Following the exact steps above, our solar company SEO services generated an additional $981,172.04 in organic revenue for ShopSolarKits.com, in just 6 months.

The Foundation
Content built the topical relevancy. Links built the authority behind it
We plan and publish as much solar content as we do not only because it's the fastest way to get traffic and opt-ins, which are then converted into sales, but also because it quickly makes a site topically relevant in the eyes of Google, and once you achieve topical relevancy, SEO becomes really easy. Topical relevancy is achieved when you cover a topic so extensively that Google learns you're one of the best sources online for that topic, and then hands over the rankings.
| Metric | Before | After | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domain authority | 4 to 6 | → | Well into the high 30s |
| Monthly organic traffic (Ahrefs) | 8,000 to 10,000 at most | → | Well over 50,000, pushing up on 60,000 |
