Shopify does not handle SEO automatically. What it does do is automatically create a sitemap and add your collection and product title as an H1 and meta title. But it won't do any crawl budget optimization, it won't help you find relevant keywords, and it won't help you build the backlinks that boost domain authority and actually get you ranking in the top results. So the answer is no, Shopify does not handle SEO automatically.
